Shanghai (Gasgoo)- In October 2025, BYD Company Limited ("BYD") sold 441,706 vehicles in total, representing a year-on-year decline of 12.13%, but posting a month-on-month growth of 11.47%, according to the company's public announcement. Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On October 24, Great Wall Motor Company Limited ("GWM") released its financial report for the third quarter (Q3) of 2025. In Q3 2025, GWM recorded revenue of 61.247 billion yuan, representing year-on-year growth of 20.51% and a 17.07% increase from the previous quarter — the company's strongest Q3 performance in history. During the same quarter, vehicle sales reached around 353,600 units, up 20.2% year-on-year and 12.97% quarter-on-quarter, also marking a record high. Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) totaled 118,000 units, surging 49.21% year-on-year, while overseas sales climbed to 136,500 units, up 11.23% from a year earlier and 27.87% from the previous quarter. From January to August this year, the automaker sold 789,719 vehicles in total, which grew 5.94% compared to the same period last year. In August, GWM's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales amounted to 37,495 units, surging 50.92% from a year earlier, highlighting the company's accelerated growth in the NEV sector. Meanwhile, sales of models priced above 200,000 yuan reached 31,631 units last month, zooming up 50.57% year on year. Regarding performance in overseas markets, GWM saw its monthly export volume hit a record high of 45,166 units in August, representing an 11.65% rise from a year ago. Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On August 21, FAW Bestune Automobile and Jiangsu Yueda Group ("Yueda Group") signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Changchun, Jilin, signaling a new chapter in their partnership, according to a post on Yueda Group's WeChat account. The agreement lays out plans for both sides to build a long-term and stable partnership guided by mutual benefit and complementary strengths. Their collaboration will span equity investment, manufacturing, supply chain integration, research and development, and sales and service, with the shared goal of driving sustainable growth. During the signing ceremony, both companies engaged in detailed discussions on cooperation across the electric vehicle value chain, from R&D to production, supply, and sales. Yueda Group emphasized its commitment to strengthening capabilities in complete vehicle manufacturing, key components, and technology-driven services, aiming to reinforce its position within the broader automotive supply chain. Vehicle sales contributed RMB 16.88 billion, a year-on-year surge of 147.6%, while services and other revenue came in at RMB 1.39 billion, a 7.6% increase from the previous year. The sharp revenue increase was closely tied to surging sales. XPENG delivered around 103,000 vehicles in Q2, up 241.6% from a year earlier. First-half deliveries totaled about 197,000 units, marking a 279% year-on-year spike. Greater scale helped narrow losses. XPENG reported a net loss of RMB 480 million, a 62.6% improvement from the RMB 1.285 billion shortfall in the same period last year. Gross margin rose to a record high of 17.3%, up 3.3 percentage points year-on-year and 1.7 percentage points quarter-on-quarter. Vehicle gross margin hit 14.3%, a gain of 7.9 percentage points from 2024 and the eighth straight quarter of improvement. "Time flies, but platinum endures" – In the global market during H1 2025, platinum, regarded by many investors as a "substitute for gold," undoubtedly emerged as the most dazzling "star"... As shown in the figure below, platinum prices surged by over 40% in the first half of the year, leading the gains among major global cross-asset classes. Due to increased imports in China and a decline in supply from South Africa, the major producer, coupled with a previous influx of platinum into the inventory of the New York Mercantile Exchange amid concerns over potential US import tariffs, the price of this platinum group metal soared by 36% in Q2. In June alone, platinum prices surged by 28% as hedge funds and speculative traders piled in, marking the strongest monthly performance since 1986 and briefly touching an 11-year high of $1,432.6 per ounce. An independent metals trader commented, "Platinum has broken out of its decade-long trading range, attracting the attention of both professional and retail investors in the process, who are starting to think, 'Hey, platinum is indeed undervalued from a fundamental perspective.'" Previously, research by the World Platinum Investment Council, an industry organization, showed that China's platinum jewelry processing volume increased by 26% in Q1. A trader said these factors together constitute "explosive factors driving up prices." Could there be trouble ahead? However, such surges are often short-lived. As we enter H2, many analysts are questioning whether platinum has enough underlying support to maintain its strong upward momentum. Metals Focus expects the global platinum market to face a supply deficit of 529,000 ounces this year, but even after the resulting reduction in above-ground inventory, inventory will still remain at 9.2 million ounces, equivalent to up to 14 months of demand - a fairly ample cushion. Wilma Swarts, Director of Platinum Group Metals at Metals Focus, said that while uncertainty persists over the US's trade policy on platinum, raising import tariffs on the metal would ultimately be counterproductive, as North American supply cannot meet regional demand. In addition, platinum lease rates, which hit a high of 22.7% in June, have now pulled back to 11.6%, reflecting a partial easing of the tightest platinum supply and demand situation. Metals Focus notes that automotive production forecasters have cut their production estimates for the next four years by up to 10 million units, and this decline in automotive production will lead to weaker demand for PGMs. Nornickel, the world's largest palladium producer, has stated that any further increase in platinum prices could prompt catalyst producers to increase their use of palladium as a substitute for platinum. The company notes that when the price spread between the two metals exceeds 30%, it will encourage such substitution. As of Thursday, platinum was 22% more expensive than palladium. Of course, while analysts and traders are cautious about further increases in platinum prices, they do not expect a significant correction. With the addition of the two new variants, the Bestune Pony now comes with six trim levels, with prices ranging from 24,900 yuan to 43,900 yuan.
