Recently, the Shanghai Electric Taonan Wind Power Coupled with Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project, designed with the participation of Jilin Institute of PowerChina, has commenced production. This project is the country's first large-scale demonstration project for producing green methanol through wind and solar power-coupled hydrogen production and biomass conversion.
Located in the Green Energy and Chemical Industry Park in western Jilin (Taonan), this project is one of the key projects worth billions of yuan in Jilin Province and an important part of the strategic layout of "Hydrogen-Powered Jilin" and "Jilin Hydrogen to Shanghai". It plays a demonstrative and leading role in the development of the new energy industry nationwide. Based on abundant wind and biomass energy, this project builds an "industry chain" of "green new energy + green chemicals", providing a new technological route and business model for large-scale green electricity consumption.
By collecting biomass straw, pre-treating it, and then applying technologies such as pure oxygen pressurized biomass gasification, wind power-based hydrogen production, and CO?-rich synthesis gas methanol synthesis, this project converts agricultural and forestry waste and locally consumed wind power into high-value-added green methanol, achieving efficient utilization of biomass and wind energy and generating considerable economic benefits. It is expected that after full commissioning, the project will produce 250,000 mt of green methanol annually, with an initial annual output of 50,000 mt.
