CEO of Antofagasta: Copper tariffs may help its US projects

  • Jul 11, 2025, at 11:14 am

Ivan Arriagada, CEO of copper mining company Antofagasta, said at an event on Thursday that the company's planned copper mine project in the US sees opportunities amid the Trump administration's 50% tariff on copper imports.

Arriagada said it was important to see how the US copper tariff would be implemented. "We are not currently sending more copper to the US, and we are maintaining our existing sales contracts," he said.

Aurora Williams, Chile's Minister of Mines, speaking alongside Arriagada, said the government had not yet received precise information on how the copper tariff would be implemented.

Chile is the world's largest copper producer.
