Recently, the pure oxygen pressurized fluidized bed biomass gasification technology independently developed by Shanghai Electric has been successfully put into operation in the Taonan Wind Power Coupled Biomass Green Methanol Integrated Demonstration Project (hereinafter referred to as the Taonan Project), marking a significant breakthrough by Shanghai Electric in the field of biomass gasification and providing a brand-new solution for green methanol production.

Technological Breakthrough: Overcoming Industry Challenges and Achieving Efficient Conversion
Based on the rich experience in technology R&D and equipment manufacturing in the gasification field of Shanghai Boiler Works Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric, the technical team has overcome key technological challenges such as difficult biomass conveyance, low gasification efficiency, high methane content, alkali metal contamination and slagging, and tar blockage. They have successfully developed the internationally pioneering pure oxygen pressurized fluidized bed gasification technology. The world's first 300 mt/day large-capacity pure oxygen pressurized fluidized bed biomass gasification unit has completed a 168-hour continuous full-load operation assessment and is ready for large-scale promotion and application.
Compared with conventional biomass gasification technologies, it has the following characteristics:
Direct feeding of formed native biomass without the need for additional heat source dehydration/carbonization treatment;
The effective gas (CO+H2) in the crude synthesis gas reaches approximately 70%;
The carbon conversion rate exceeds 98%;
The methane content in the crude synthesis gas can be controlled at approximately 2%;
The light oil content in the crude synthesis gas is reduced to below 500 mg/Nm³.
The demonstration project not only verifies the technical feasibility of large-scale application of pure oxygen pressurized fluidized bed biomass gasification but also provides a new path for the efficient utilization of biomass resources.

Project Significance: Pioneering a New Model for Green Methanol Production
The Taonan Project is the world's first demonstration project for methanol production through wind power coupled biomass gasification, pioneering a new model for the synergistic utilization of renewable energy and waste.
The successful application of this technology holds significance in the following aspects:
Facilitating the resourceful utilization of agricultural waste and reducing environmental pollution;
Providing stable raw materials for green methanol production and promoting the low-carbon transformation of industries such as shipping and chemicals;
Achieving a "zero-carbon cycle" and providing technical support for the country's "dual carbon" goals.

Future Outlook: Accelerating Commercialization and Empowering a Green Future
Shanghai Electric will continue to optimize the process, promote the implementation of larger-scale commercial projects for biomass gasification technology, further reduce the production cost of green methanol, and enhance market competitiveness. In the future, this technology is expected to be promoted and applied in more fields, injecting new impetus into global energy transformation and sustainable development.
