SMM News on May 16: According to market feedback, from May 9 to May 15, the weekly production of silicon plants in the Xinjiang sample was 23,570 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 49%, continuing to decline WoW. Some capacities of large plants in Xinjiang were temporarily reduced or suspended for heat preservation, driving a further decline in regional production during the week. In the past two days, the market has been abuzz with news about the resumption of production of some capacities in a certain plant area of a large plant, but the specific resumption time remains unclear.
The weekly production of silicon enterprises in the north-west China sample was 10,410 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 77%, showing a slight decline WoW. The statistical scope for the north-west China region includes Qinghai, Ningxia, and Gansu. With low silicon prices, enterprises continue to face production pressure. Coupled with poor spot cargo sales and certain inventory pressure, enterprises have a weak willingness to produce.
The weekly production of silicon enterprises in the Yunnan sample was 1,150 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 13%, showing a decline WoW. The weekly sample production fell sharply WoW, mainly due to the suspension of some silicon furnaces at a plant in Baoshan within the sample during the week. While old capacities were shut down, new silicon metal projects in Baoshan and Zhaotong, Yunnan, were put into operation in sequence from May to June. Silicon enterprises that suspended production in Yunnan have basically no production resumption plans in the near future.
The weekly production of silicon enterprises in the Sichuan sample was 1,085 mt, with a weekly operating rate of 17%, showing an increase WoW. The silicon enterprises resuming production in Sichuan are mainly those with supporting facilities. As the rainy season approaches, a small number of silicon enterprises in Sichuan have resumed production.
