[SMM Analysis] The price of grain-oriented silicon steel will show a doldrums trend next week, with relatively small possibility of significant price fluctuations
Apr 25, 2025, at 10:05 am
[Next Week, the Price of Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel Will Remain in the Doldrums, with Relatively Small Possibility of Significant Fluctuations] Subsequent tariff news will continue to affect the market, exerting a significant impact on the direct export of grain-oriented silicon steel and the export of related downstream industries. The willingness of downstream transformer enterprises to purchase will decrease. However, as the May Day holiday approaches, some downstream enterprises will continue production during the holiday or conduct a small amount of restocking, which will, to a certain extent, slow down the downward trend in the price of grain-oriented silicon steel.
Price Dynamics of Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel
Shanghai B23R085 grade: 14,400-14,600 yuan/mt
Wuhan 23RK085 grade: 14,200-14,700 yuan/mt
This week, HRC futures fluctuated considerably, but this was mainly reflected in costs, with limited direct impact on the grain-oriented electrical steel market. The influence of tariff-related news continued to ferment. Traders reported a weak trading atmosphere, with prices in the doldrums and overall trading activity insufficient. Currently, downstream transformer enterprises are cautious in purchasing grain-oriented electrical steel, mostly purchasing as needed, which makes it difficult to increase market trading volume. State-owned steel mills, relying on their own strength, maintained firm prices, while some private steel mills, in order to sell their products, showed signs of a slight decrease in the prices of mainstream grades.
The subsequent tariff-related news will continue to affect the market, exerting a significant impact on the direct export of grain-oriented electrical steel and the export of related downstream industries. Downstream transformer enterprises' willingness to purchase has decreased. However, as the Labor Day holiday approaches, some downstream enterprises will continue production during the holiday or conduct a small amount of restocking, which will, to a certain extent, slow down the downward trend in the price of grain-oriented electrical steel.
In summary, it is expected that the price of grain-oriented electrical steel will show a weak and stable trend next week, with relatively small possibility of significant price fluctuations.
