SMM April 25th News:
The weekly operating rate of secondary lead in four provinces from April 19th to April 25th, 2025 was 46.92%, a decrease of 9.72 percentage points WoW. The supply of waste lead-acid batteries is tight, and the market circulation of goods is scarce, putting significant pressure on raw material competition for secondary lead smelters. At the same time, the purchase willingness of lead ingots by downstream battery producers is weak. High costs coupled with expanding losses led to widespread production cuts in secondary lead smelters this week. The supply of scrap batteries is scarce, and some recyclers entered the holiday early, making it difficult to improve the arrivals at smelters next week. The operating rate of refined lead is still expected to decline.
