SMM February 6 News:
This week, prices in the cascade utilization market remained stable. Supply side, as the Chinese New Year has just ended, the demand for battery cell production has decreased, leading to a corresponding decline in the supply of waste battery cells for cascade utilization. Meanwhile, during the Chinese New Year holiday, the procurement bidding activities for waste battery cells for cascade utilization by public transportation systems across various regions were suspended, further reducing market supply. The number of retired battery cells did not show a significant increase in the short term, and multiple factors collectively contributed to the overall reduction in market supply.
Demand side, most enterprises had completed stockpiling before the holiday. Currently, companies are adopting a wait-and-see attitude toward post-holiday prices while focusing on the subsequent strategic plans of major battery cell manufacturers to better predict price trends and adjust procurement strategies, resulting in overall low demand. Consequently, recent market transactions have been poor, with actual deals being rare.
Regarding future prices, as downstream demand for waste batteries for cascade utilization has not significantly improved, coupled with the expected increase in battery cell production and retirement this year, which may lead to a rise in the supply of waste battery cells for cascade utilization, prices for waste battery cells for cascade utilization are likely to continue showing a fluctuating downward trend.
