Suppliers Actively Clear Stock Before the Year-End, Primary Lead Smelter Inventory Further Declines [SMM Primary Lead Inventory Weekly Review]
Jan 17, 2025, at 4:31 pm
As of January 17, SMM reported that the in-plant inventory of primary lead delivery brands stood at 1,500 mt, down by 1,600 mt from January 10.
With the Chinese New Year holiday approaching, downstream enterprises are expected to halt operations. Lead smelters have generally been actively shipping to clear inventories, and spot premiums narrowed WoW. As of January 17, spot orders for primary lead in major regions were quoted at premiums of 0-200 yuan/mt ex-factory against the SMM 1# lead average price. Meanwhile, downstream enterprises were conducting final restocking of lead ingots. Additionally, as the premiums for secondary refined lead saw a larger decline compared to primary lead, part of the demand shifted to secondary lead. Consequently, the in-plant inventory of primary lead smelters further decreased, though the pre-sale of production for the following week remained relatively limited.
