【SMM Analysis】Developer Nofar and Sungrow deploy 230MWh German BESS project

Sungrow and developer Nofar Energy have signed an agreement to develop a 230MWh project in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.

Sungrow and developer Nofar Energy have signed an agreement to develop a 230MWh project in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. Sungrow will provide the PowerTitan 2.0 Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technology for the project, which integrates a 2.5MW Power Conversion System (PCS) with 5MWh of storage per unit. The 116.5MW/230MWh system is being developed by Israeli developer Nofar Energy. Although no target commercial operation date has been given, the BESS supply agreement signed by the two companies indicates that construction may begin soon. Its scale is similar to the 238MWh project recently started in Schleswig-Holstein by BESS technology and developer-operator Eco Stor, which is among the largest projects in Germany. Germany has a huge solar photovoltaic deployment target of 215GW by 2030, which has led to a surge in BESS deployment, with an expected addition of over 100GWh of installed capacity by then. Nofar Energy has deployed BESS projects domestically and entered the UK market with a large project in 2021, as well as establishing a joint venture entity, Atlantic Green, in the country and recently injecting vitality into its first BESS project.
