Beijing (Gasgoo)- On April 16, German’s Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Steffi Lemke, led a delegation to visit BMW Group's R&D Center in Beijing, China. 

Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as sustainable development and circular economy. As a leader in sustainable development in the automotive industry, BMW Group, with its strong local R&D and innovation capabilities, is committed to promoting the low-carbon and green transformation of the entire value chain of the Chinese automotive industry.

BMW presented the specific plans for the sixth-generation electric drive system in the BMW Neue Klasse (The New Class) models, which is scheduled to commence production in Shenyang, Liaoning province, in 2026, focusing on sustainability.

During German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to China, Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, stated, "Green development is not a solo journey; it requires collective efforts. Germany and China share this common belief, and green development becomes a new opportunity for further cooperation between the two sides. BMW is willing to play an active role as a bridge to promote cooperation between Germany and China in the field of sustainable development and circular economy."

BMW has been conducting local R&D in China for 20 years, with over 3,000 experts working in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Nanjing cities. By the end of 2024, BMW's joint venture with Chinese automotive intelligence solution devleoper ArcherMind Technology, BA TechWorks, will expand to house 600 developers. BMW Group has established the largest R&D network outside Germany in China, capable of providing solutions for intelligent connected vehicles.
