On August 8, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a briefing on August 7 local time that the United States assistance programs to the government of Niger were suspended because of the country’s military takeover, and these projects were worth more than $100 million, including development assistance, security assistance, and law enforcement assistance. He said the suspension of US security aid would be lifted if President Mohamed Bazoum returned to power. Miller said that the US Embassy in Niger completed the departure order on the 4th local time, and assisted 100 US citizens to leave the country. He also said that the US State Department has been in contact with Niger's President Bazoum, and US State Department officials had spoken with Bazoum earlier on August 7th.
