Three people directly involved in the quarterly price negotiations said that a global aluminium producer has offered Japanese buyers a premium of $165/mt for primary aluminium in the third quarter. This is 27-32% higher than the current quarter.

As the largest aluminium importer in the Asian region, its quarterly primary aluminium premium negotiations finalize the benchmark for the region.

In the April-June quarter, Japanese buyers agreed to a premium of $125-130/mt for primary aluminium, an increase of 45-53% from the previous quarter.
