SHANGHAI, Sep 14 (SMM) - According to the information released by the National Meteorological Centre, the high-definition visible satellite image on the morning of September 13 showed that Typhoon Meihua had crossed the Ryukyu Islands and entered the East China Sea. Muifa is expected to make landfall in the central and northern part of Zhejiang Province during the afternoon and night on September 14, upgraded to a super typhoon with 13-14 level of gale-force winds. By historical standards, the magnitude is unprecedented in north Zhengjiang province and Shanghai.
Ningbo, Zhejiang will bear the blunt of the impact of Muifa and local enterprises have taken measures to minimise the damage caused by the super typhoon. According to SMM survey, the operating rates of die-casting zinc alloy plants in Ningbo dropped to zero amid torrential rain and opened gate of reservoir. The total capacity of affected die-casting zinc alloy enterprises in SMM survey sample amounted to 300,000 mt/year, accounting for 18.38% of the domestic die-casting zinc alloy capacity (1.6314 million mt/year). As of September 13, the affected manufacturers in Ningbo were all shut down, and the specific date for resumption had not been decided yet.
However, considering the current weak domestic consumption in die-casting zinc alloy sector and the low finished product inventory, the impact of Typhoon Muifa will have little impact on the sector, and the operating rates of die-casting zinc alloy producers in other areas is unlikely to be boosted.
