SHANGHAI, Aug 22 (SMM) - SMM statistics showed that the global iron ore shipments totalled 29.62 million mt in the week ending August 21, an increase of 0.8% week-on-week.
The shipments from Australia fell 19.1% on a weekly basis to 14.8 million mt, of which 11.57 million mt or 78.2% went to China, a decrease of 19.8%. The shipments from Brazil jumped 22.7% on a weekly basis to 7.51 million mt, of which 3.23 million mt or 43% went to China, an increase of 31.3%.
The four major mining companies shipped a combined 21.73 million mt last week, a drop of 1.11 million mt from a week earlier.
A total of 24.11 million mt of iron ore arrived at major Chinese ports last week, up 2.1% week-on-week.
