Tracking Green Hydrogen Projects: Nation's First 1,000 kg Commercial Ammonia-to-Hydrogen Refueling Integrated Station Project Launched

  • Oct 30, 2025, at 1:35 pm

On October 22, Fuda Zijin Hydrogen Energy Technology Co., Ltd. launched the country's first 1,000 kg commercial ammonia decomposition hydrogen production and refueling integrated station. The project centers on a zero-carbon cycle route of "renewable energy—hydrogen—ammonia—ESS—application," marking a major technological breakthrough in China's hydrogen storage, transportation, and refueling sectors and a critical step forward in its commercialization.

Technologically, the project adopts independently developed low-temperature ammonia decomposition hydrogen production technology, achieving an ammonia conversion rate exceeding 99.5% at 480°C. Compared to traditional setups, it is more compact, energy-efficient, and offers flexible capacity adjustment. The innovative model of "direct liquid ammonia supply—on-site hydrogen production—immediate refueling" completely overcomes the challenge of high transportation costs associated with conventional high-pressure hydrogen storage, reducing the end-user hydrogen price to approximately 30 yuan/kg, a 50% reduction compared to conventional methods. It can stably produce 1,000 kg of high-purity hydrogen daily, providing refueling services for no fewer than 100 4.5 mt hydrogen fuel cell logistics vehicles, directly supporting green logistics in Nanhai District.

The project's implementation in Nanhai, Foshan, benefits from the local well-established hydrogen ecosystem covering production, storage, transportation, and application. As a national pioneer in hydrogen industry development, Nanhai District's policy support and scenario planning have provided fertile ground for the project, making the station a replicable and scalable "Nanhai model" for zero-carbon hydrogen supply.

In the future, Fuda Zijin Hydrogen Energy will continue to increase R&D investment, expand the application of ammonia-to-hydrogen in off-grid scenarios such as ports and mines, collaborate with upstream and downstream partners to build an integrated "ammonia-hydrogen" industry ecosystem, and promote the scaling, marketization, and internationalization of green hydrogen.
