The Spanish government unveiled a €100 million aid initiative, RENOCICLA, to foster recycling and reuse in renewable energy projects, focusing on solar panels, lithium batteries, and wind turbine blades. Managed by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), €80 million is allocated for new recycling investments, while €20 million will support innovation in the eco-design of renewable components.

RENOCICLA prioritizes projects that optimize the treatment and recovery of obsolete equipment, targeting reuse and recycling rates between 65% and 85%. Applications for funding are open from 8 July to 16 September 2025, with projects being evaluated on technical rigor, economic feasibility, and innovation. The Institute for Diversification and Energy Saving (IDAE) is set to manage the programme and will hold an introductory webinar on 3 July.

This initiative comes right after a significant €300 million grant to renewable manufacturing projects from MITECO and IDAE. Notably, startup Sunwafe received almost €200 million to establish a wafer manufacturing plant aiming for a 20GW annual capacity by 2030. Other grants went to Dutch solar cell producer MCPV and Spanish module manufacturer European Solar Cell Company (Escelco).
