SMM, January 16:
This week, anode prices continued to remain stable. Cost side, as anode producers are currently in the inventory stocking phase, raw material low-sulphur petroleum coke saw ideal sales, and inventories remained at low levels. This week, low-sulphur petroleum coke prices continued to rise. In contrast, due to low demand from downstream anode producers for oil-based green needle coke, the operating rate of needle coke producers remained low, with producers mainly maintaining stable prices. Graphitisation electricity costs remained high, coupled with weak demand, leaving the overall market still in an oversupply dilemma. This week, graphitisation prices were relatively stagnant. Demand side, downstream battery cell manufacturers showed good demand for anode materials, with a low desire to bargain down prices, enabling smooth shipments for anode producers this week. With demand potentially pulling back near the Chinese New Year and high costs, anode producers showed strong sentiment to stand firm on quotes. It is expected that anode prices will remain stable in the short term.
