To provide a more comprehensive reflection of the international steel slab spot market, enhance market transparency, and reduce trade risks for supply chain participants, SMM, after in-depth market research and industry feedback, has decided to launch new export price assessments for steel slabs in the Black Sea and Brazil markets, effective from 14 July 2026.
The Black Sea and Brazil represent two of the world's most vital export origins for blast furnace (BF-BOF) semi-finished products, and their slab resources play a pivotal role in the international market. Launching FOB price assessments for these mainstream specifications (SAE1006 / A36) will assist in accurately tracking the competitive differences and export premiums of these two resources.
This initiative not only provides an independent third-party pricing benchmark for domestic steel mills and traders assessing overseas primary resources, but also serves as a crucial step for SMM in completing the global steel trade pricing landscape, thereby greatly facilitating multinational procurement negotiations and cost accounting.
