To provide a more comprehensive and accurate reflection of Malaysia’s domestic hot-rolled coil market, help market participants monitor local supply-demand conditions and cost transmission, and reduce market risks for supply-chain participants, SMM, following in-depth market research and industry engagement, has decided to launch a new Malaysia domestic HRC spot price assessment, effective from September 2, 2026.
Malaysia is an important flat steel-producing and consuming market in Southeast Asia. Hot-rolled coil is widely used as feedstock for cold-rolled and coated steel, steel pipes, machinery and general manufactured products. Changes in domestic production, import competition, raw-material costs and downstream demand have increased the market’s need for a transparent and independent domestic HRC price benchmark.
The new assessment will be based on an EXW Malaysia basis and will cover S275JR hot-rolled coil with a specification of 3.0×1250×C. It will help steel mills, traders and downstream users monitor domestic price movements and provide an objective reference for procurement, contract negotiation, cost assessment and market analysis.

- Price Collection Time: 9:00–11:00 Kuala Lumpur time every Wednesday.
- Publication Time: Before 16:00 Kuala Lumpur time every Wednesday.
- Payment Terms: Bank transfer, cash or short-term credit of up to approximately 30 days; letters of credit may be used for larger orders. Other payment methods will be standardised.
- Delivery Time: Available material is typically delivered within 7–14 days after order confirmation. Non-stock orders are subject to the mill’s production schedule.
- Quality Standard: S275JR hot-rolled coil compliant with EN 10025-2:2004, with a nominal thickness of 3.0 mm, width of 1,250 mm and minimum yield strength of 275 MPa.

It will be formulated and published strictly in accordance with the SMM pricing methodology to authentically reflect mainstream spot transaction and offer levels under the specified delivery terms, specification and trading standards.
