By country, the main sources of imports in August were Norway, Russia, Indonesia, and South Africa. Imports from Norway increased significantly to 12,202 mt, up 392% MoM, while imports from Indonesia fell to 4,161 mt, down 31% MoM. Exports: In August 2025, China's refined nickel exports totaled 15,048 mt, down 3% MoM and up 17% YoY. Among these, other unwrought non-alloy nickel exports amounted to 13,893 mt, accounting for 92% of total refined nickel exports. By region, the main domestic export regions in August were Guangxi, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Shanghai, with Guangxi accounting for 51% and Zhejiang for 38%. Customs Clearance Volume: In August 2025, the customs clearance volume of refined nickel was 10,138 mt, down 55% MoM from the previous month. The significant decline was mainly due to a sharp decrease in imports from Indonesia and China (Bonded Zone).

Among these, imports of other unwrought non-alloy nickel were 35,506 mt, accounting for 93% of the refined nickel import volume. By country, the main import sources in June were Russia, China (bonded zone), Indonesia, Norway, and South Africa. Imports from Russia significantly increased to 17,745 mt, up 403% MoM; from China (bonded zone) 8,334 mt, up 136% MoM; and from Indonesia 5,993 mt, up 109% MoM. Exports: In July 2025, China's refined nickel exports amounted to 15,546 mt, up 53% MoM and up 2% YoY. Of this, exports of other unwrought non-alloy nickel were 14,346 mt, representing 92% of the refined nickel export volume. By region, the main domestic export areas in June were Guangxi, Zhejiang, Guangdong, and Shanghai, with Guangxi accounting for 50%. Customs Clearance Volume: In July 2025, the clearance volume of refined nickel was 22,619 mt, up 216% MoM. This was mainly due to a surge in imports from Indonesia and China (bonded zone), leading to an increase in the inflow of refined nickel.

Among them, imports of other unwrought non-alloy nickel reached 14,777 mt, accounting for 87% of the total refined nickel imports.By country of origin, the main importing countries in June were China (bonded zone), Russia, Indonesia, Norway, and South Africa. Imports from China (bonded zone) amounted to 6,208 mt; imports from Russia were 3,527 mt, down 28% MoM; and imports from Indonesia were 2,863 mt, down 32% MoM. Exports: In June 2025, China's refined nickel exports reached 10,143 mt, down 27% MoM and 6% YoY. Among them, exports of other unwrought non-alloy nickel were 9,101 mt, accounting for 90% of the total refined nickel exports. By region, the main domestic exporting regions in June were Zhejiang, Guangxi, Shanghai, and Guangdong. Customs Clearance Volume: In June 2025, the customs clearance volume of refined nickel was 7,167 mt, an increase of 2,505 mt from the previous month. This was mainly due to a significant decrease in total direct exports in June and a notable increase in the total volume arriving from abroad to the bonded zone.

The decrease in imports is mainly attributed to the decline in imports of nickel from Russia. Currently, imports of refined nickel are in a deficit, and there are difficulties in signing long-term contracts for Russian nickel, leading to a gradual decline in imports. However, imports of refined nickel from Indonesia have increased significantly, with 1,590 tons imported in February, roughly equal to the volume of nickel imported from Russia. The slow production ramp-up of Indonesian nickel producers has accelerated this year, with half of the production entering the domestic market in February. On the export side, China exported 4,951 tons of unalloyed nickel in January, with a month-on-month decrease of 34.16% but a synchronous increase of 84.1% year-on-year. In February, exports of unalloyed nickel totaled 2,329 tons, with a month-on-month decrease of 53% and a synchronous decrease of 58.7% year-on-year. In February, exports of refined nickel declined. On one hand, this was due to the impact of the logistics shutdown during the Spring Festival, and on the other hand, it was because of the recent rise in nickel sulfate prices. Some companies prioritized the production of nickel sulfate, reducing the output of refined nickel.
