In September 2025, the comprehensive operating rate of China's aluminum wire and cable industry was 56.63%, up 3.04 percentage points MoM from August, but down 4.5 percentage points YoY from July of the previous year.

Customs data showed that China's aluminum wire and cable exports reached 22,300 mt in August 2025, up 26.35% MoM and 69% YoY. Cumulative exports from January to August totaled 175,100 mt, up 36.85% from 135,000 mt in the same period of 2024. By product structure, steel-core aluminum stranded wire exports were 15,000 mt, up 41% MoM and 80% YoY, accounting for 67% of total exports; aluminum stranded wire exports were 7,300 mt, up 5% MoM and 50% YoY, accounting for 33% of total exports. Within the Baotou Aluminum Industrial Park, machines roar and crane arms shuttle busily as the construction of the green smart cable project is in full swing. As a key project for extending, supplementing, and strengthening the industrial chain in the park, it focuses on the R&D and production of high-end cables, aligning with the national "dual carbon" goals and the construction needs of the new-type power system. Upon completion, it will become a vital force in promoting the development of Baotou's deep-processing aluminum industrial cluster and facilitating the green transformation of the power transmission system. According to reports, the project's construction period spans from June 2025 to October 2026, with a total investment of 2.4 billion yuan and a planned investment of 1.5 billion yuan within the year. The project is being implemented in two phases: the first phase will establish production lines for 180,000 mt of special conductors and 80,000 km of aluminum alloy cables, while the second phase will add capacity for another 180,000 mt of special conductors and 40,000 km of aluminum alloy cables. This week, the overall operating rate of China's downstream aluminum processing leading enterprises rose by 0.8 percentage points MoM to 59.5%, indicating a mild market recovery. In specific segments, the operating rate of primary aluminum alloy increased by 1.0 percentage points to 56.6%, with a notable increase in primary aluminum consumption by top-tier enterprises. The operating rate of aluminum plate/sheet and strip rose by 1.0 percentage points to 65.0%, driven by stockpiling orders for can stock, automotive sheets, and other peak-season products. The operating rate of aluminum wire and cable increased by 0.8 percentage points to 62.6%, as the accelerated power grid construction cycle boosted terminal cargo pick-up. The operating rate of aluminum extrusion slightly rose by 1.0 percentage points to 50.5%, with automotive and PV orders maintaining growth, while construction extrusions remained sluggish. The operating rate of aluminum foil rebounded by 0.9 percentage points to 69.3%, mainly driven by the restart of air-conditioner foil production lines and the recovery of decorative foil demand. The operating rate of secondary aluminum slightly declined by 0.1 percentage points to 53.0%, as the off-season and ongoing losses continued to exert pressure, and policy impacts forced producers to cut production. It is expected that the aluminum wire and cable, aluminum plate/sheet and strip sectors will continue their upward momentum in late August, while the approaching traditional peak season of "September-October peak season" may further boost demand for aluminum foil and aluminum extrusion.

[Dongshun Cable's high performance aluminum alloy cable project expected to commence production in October] Recently, Jiangsu Dongshun Cable Technology Co., Ltd.'s high performance aluminum alloy cable project, with a total investment of 350 million yuan, has entered the final stage of construction. The renovation, upgrading, and decoration of the production plant and comprehensive office building will be completed by month-end September, and will be officially put into use in October. Upon completion, the project will have an annual production capacity of 510,000 kilometers of high performance aluminum alloy cables.
