South Korean steelmaker POSCO is preparing an anticircumvention complaint against imports of Malaysian stainless CRC and is working with the Korea Trade Commission to finalize the investigation scope and supporting evidence. The filing could be submitted between late August and early September. The review will focus on products processed in Malaysia using raw materials from origins already subject to South Korean antidumping measures, including China, Indonesia and Taiwan. If circumvention is confirmed, imports arriving after the investigation begins could face retroactive antidumping duties.

POSCO Future M said it is continuing to secure new customer orders for its cathode materials business, while preparing to strengthen cost competitiveness in LFP cathode materials. The company said it plans to apply a new LFP production process from 2029 after entering the market. The process is expected to leverage POSCO Group’s internal supply chain, including steel mill byproducts and lithium raw materials, to secure a cost advantage. In the anode materials business, POSCO Future M said its artificial graphite plant in Vietnam is scheduled to begin trial operations in the second half of next year, while its spherical graphite plant in Saemangeum is planned to start trial operations in the first half of next year. Through these projects, the company aims to raise its anode materials utilization rate to more than 70% next year and over 90% the following year.

POSCO Future M announced on July 30 that its preliminary consolidated operating profit for Q2 surged 3,351% to KRW 26.7 billion. Revenue rose 2.8% to KRW 679.5 billion, while net profit turned positive at KRW 24.7 billion.

South Korean steelmaker POSCO is reportedly preparing to file an anti-dumping complaint against stainless steel cold-rolled coil (CRC) imports from Malaysia, with the application potentially submitted in Q3 2026. POSCO is reviewing the sourcing of raw materials and the production and export structures of Malaysian stainless steel products, examining whether goods processed in Malaysia using materials from countries already subject to South Korea's anti-dumping measures, namely China Mainland, Indonesia, and Taiwan, China, should fall under anti-dumping rules. South Korea's anti-dumping framework was expanded this year to cover third-country processing and assembly operations. If circumvention is confirmed, the applicable duty rate would be that of the original raw material supplier rather than a newly calculated Malaysian rate. Importers and end-users have been warned to carefully assess contractual and payment terms, as products imported after an investigation's official launch may be subject to retroactive anti-dumping duties.

South Korean company Posco International signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Australia-based Meteoric Resources to purchase 30% of the mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) output from its Caldeira project in Minas Gerais, Brazil, for a period of seven years. Meteoric stated on July 29 that Posco will consider acquiring an equity stake in the project and assist Meteoric in securing financing from South Korean export credit agencies, including the Export-Import Bank of Korea and Korea Trade Insurance, to ensure timely commercial production.

Meteoric Resources Ltd (ASX: MEI) announced a strategic partnership with POSCO International to advance its rare earth project in Brazil, including the potential supply of up to 30% of Caldeira's output to POSCO, as well as collaboration on project financing. A non-binding memorandum of strategic partnership was signed with POSCO International Corporation. POSCO may secure supply of up to 30% of Caldeira's rare earth materials over a potential term of up to seven years.

POSCO Future M is moving ahead with manufacturing innovation by applying artificial intelligence (AI) across its entire production process. The company announced on July 28 that it has set “Battery of Things (BoT) Ecosystem Game Changer” as its digital innovation vision and established a roadmap for process standardization and company-wide, data-driven AI transformation (AX). POSCO Future M plans to complete the establishment of an AI-based manufacturing innovation system by the first half of 2028. At manufacturing sites, the company aims to introduce physical AI that analyzes equipment and production data in real time to control processes, with the goal of increasing productivity by 30%.

According to China Trade Remedies Information, on July 24, Japan’s Ministry of Finance announced an affirmative preliminary anti-dumping ruling on hot-dipped galvanized steel strips and sheets originating in China and South Korea, determining that the subject products were dumped and that such dumping caused injury to the relevant domestic industry in Japan. The dumping margins are as follows: Angang Steel Company Limited and producers/exporters that participated in the investigation but were not selected for sampling from China — 63.95%; Hunan Valin Lianyuan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. and other Chinese producers/exporters — 68.67%; South Korean company POSCO Co., Ltd. — 32.49%; KG Donghu Steel Co., Ltd. — 42.69%; other sampled South Korean producers — 34.22%; and other South Korean producers/exporters — 42.69%.

JSW Steel expects production and sales to strengthen from Q2 FY27 as the expanded Blast Furnace-3 at Vijayanagar ramps up, while reaffirming an aggressive capacity expansion pipeline spanning Dolvi, Odisha, Utkal and Kadapa. Despite the planned BF-3 shutdown, the company reported record first-quarter steel sales of 6.25 million tonnes, supported by resilient domestic demand and a 46% year-on-year increase in exports.

Argentine local media outlet El Tribuno reported on July 19 local time that POSCO’s Phase 2 lithium carbonate plant at Sal de Oro is expected to be completed in early August and begin full-scale operations. With the start-up of the Phase 2 facility, POSCO will strengthen its lithium carbonate production capacity and lay the foundation for establishing an annual production system of 100,000 mt in the future.
