[SMM Steel] India’s state-owned steelmaker SAIL reported net profit of INR16.8 billion ($174.9 million) in Q4 FY2025/26, up 43% YoY, while revenue rose 5.1% to INR308.13 billion ($3.21 billion). However, operational performance remained largely stable, with steel sales slightly easing to 5.32 million tonnes from 5.33 million tonnes a year earlier, while crude steel production edged down to 5.08 million tonnes from 5.09 million tonnes.
May 18, 2026 17:16[SMM Steel] Tata Steel reported consolidated net profit of INR29.26 billion ($304.9 million) in Q4 FY2025/26, more than double year on year but below analysts’ forecast of INR30.8 billion. Earnings were pressured by a 16.7% rise in material costs, 8% growth in total expenses to INR585.02 billion, and one-time restructuring costs at its Dutch unit. In India, Q4 crude steel production rose over 14% YoY to 6.22 million tonnes, while domestic shipments increased 10.5% YoY to 6.19 million tonnes. The company also continued expansion projects, including a 0.75-million-tonne EAF in Ludhiana and a 2.2-million-tonne CRM complex in Kalinganagar.
May 18, 2026 17:15Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that in April 2026, China's crude steel production was 83.63 million mt, down 2.8% YoY; pig iron production was 70.69 million mt, down 3.6% YoY; steel production was 122.63 million mt, down 1.7% YoY. From January to April, China's crude steel production was 331.12 million mt, down 4.1% YoY; pig iron production was 282.28 million mt, down 3.1% YoY; steel production was 471.94 million mt, down 1.3% YoY.
May 18, 2026 15:42【SMM Steel】India's JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.118 million tonnes in April, down 1% from 2.14 million tonnes a year earlier. Indian operations contributed 2.04 million tonnes, down 1% y-o-y, while its Ohio facility in the US produced 78,000 tonnes, down 7% y-o-y. The decline was primarily due to the shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 at Vijayanagar for a capacity upgrade, which is expected to restart in Q4 2026. Excluding BF3 from last year's base, production growth was approximately 10%.
May 18, 2026 14:44[SMM Steel] India’s JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 2.12 million mt in April 2026, down 1% YoY, mainly due to the planned shutdown of blast furnace No.3 at its Vijayanagar plant for capacity upgrades. Capacity utilization at Indian operations reached around 94% excluding BF3, but fell to 83% including the furnace. JSW Steel currently has installed crude steel capacity of 35.7 million mt/year and plans to expand it to 48.9 million mt/year over the next four years.
May 13, 2026 17:43Ukrainian mining and steel group Metinvest reported its Q1 2026 operational results, showing pig iron production rose 18% year-on-year to 476,000 metric tons (mt). However, crude steel production saw a marginal decline of 1% to 494,000 mt. Notably, iron ore concentrate production surged by 91% year-on-year to 4.86 million mt as the company maximized utilization of its mining assets for export. The disparity between rising pig iron and stagnant steel output reflects a strategic focus on exporting semi-finished products and raw materials to the EU market. This increased availability of Ukrainian iron ore and merchant pig iron provides a crucial supply buffer for European electric arc furnace operators amidst global scrap shortages.
May 11, 2026 16:18According to CISA data, in late April 2026, key steel enterprises produced a total of 20.36 million mt of crude steel, with an average daily production of 2.036 million mt, down 3.6% MoM; pig iron production was 18.5 million mt, with an average daily production of 1.85 million mt, down 2.5% MoM; steel products production was 21.55 million mt, with an average daily production of 2.155 million mt, up 7.0% MoM. Based on this, national daily crude steel production is estimated at 2.73 million mt, down 2.3% MoM; daily pig iron production at 2.33 million mt, down 2.4% MoM; and daily steel products production at 4.28 million mt, up 3.0% MoM.
May 9, 2026 10:10India's crude steel production rose by 6% year-on-year in April 2026 to reach 12.1 million metric tons (Mt). Domestic finished steel consumption outpaced production growth, increasing by 8% to 11.3 million mt, driven by strong infrastructure activity. During the month, finished steel output stood at 11.6 million mt (+5.5% YoY), while imports jumped 12% to 0.6 million mt and exports fell by 15% to 0.5 million mt. The data confirms India's status as a primary driver of global steel demand, with strong domestic absorption reducing export surpluses and making the country a net importer for the period, which may support global steel prices amid tightening regional supply.
May 7, 2026 15:48Germany's crude steel production fell by 8.6% to a historical low of 34.1 million metric tons (mt) in 2025, remaining well below the 40 million mt designed capacity threshold required for sustainable industry utilization. Consequently, domestic steel mills' scrap purchases declined by 5.3% to 12.0 million mt, forcing a shift in trade dynamics that resulted in a net scrap export surplus of 3.7 million mt, as scrap exports rose by 5.3% to 7.7 million mt while imports dropped by 9.4% to 3.9 million mt.
May 7, 2026 15:45Turkey's crude steel production grew by 5.3% year-on-year to 9.7 million metric tons (mt) in the first quarter of 2026, supported by a 6.4% output increase in March to 3.3 million mt. Meanwhile, domestic finished steel consumption surged 8.9% year-on-year to 9.9 million mt in Q1, but the foreign trade balance weakened as steel exports dropped 6.8% to 3.5 million mt while imports climbed 2.6% to 4.3 million mt, pushing the export-to-import ratio down to 77.7%. Although Middle East supply chain shifts and reduced Chinese export aggression opened market opportunities in Europe, producers face mounting operational pressures and narrowing profit margins due to scrap prices approaching $400/mt, surging freight rates, and stringent EU import regulations.
