The Canadian federal government and the Province of British Columbia have signed the Canada–British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement, which includes approximately C$4.4 billion in investments aimed at accelerating resource development, energy infrastructure and export capacity in northwestern British Columbia. The package includes C$500 million to support the Red Chris copper-gold expansion project and C$3.9 billion for the North Coast Transmission Line, a major power infrastructure project designed to improve electricity access for mines and industrial developments across the region. According to Natural Resources Canada, the Golden Triangle area hosts approximately 75% of Canada's known copper reserves, along with more than 230 million ounces of gold, 650 million ounces of silver and an estimated 8 billion pounds of zinc. Canadian officials stated that expanded power and transportation infrastructure will help unlock the region's substantial copper and zinc resource potential while supporting future mining development and exports to Pacific Rim markets.

Jun 13, 2026 00:48The British Columbia Supreme Court has ordered provincial authorities to revisit the consultation process for Seabridge Gold’s KSM project, ruling that the government failed to adequately consult the Tsetsaut Skii km Lax Ha Nation before determining the project had been substantially started. With an estimated capital cost of C$8.8 billion, KSM is one of the world’s largest undeveloped gold-copper projects and hosts approximately 7.3 billion pounds of copper reserves. The ruling could introduce additional uncertainty to the project’s permitting and development timeline, highlighting ongoing challenges related to Indigenous consultation and environmental approvals in Canada’s mining sector.
Jun 11, 2026 09:31Jinchuan International reported Q1 2026 production of 18,021 tonnes of contained copper in cathode and concentrate, up 29.5% year-on-year, while cobalt hydroxide production rose to 2,139 tonnes from 71 tonnes a year earlier. The company attributed the increase primarily to contributions from the Musonoi mine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which commenced commercial production in November 2025. Musonoi hosts approximately 606,000 tonnes of copper reserves and 174,000 tonnes of cobalt reserves, with copper and cobalt grades of 3.4% and 0.9%, respectively. As Musonoi ramps up production, Jinchuan International expects annual copper output capacity to increase from around 60,000 tonnes to approximately 100,000 tonnes.
