Indonesia is the world's core production base for high-grade nickel matte, which has become a key feedstock for China's nickel sulphate and electrowon nickel. Its production cost serves as an important reference for assessing the floor support of the matte-to-LME coefficient and profit distribution along the industry chain. With faster price swings in laterite ore, sulphur and other raw and auxiliary materials, the existing monthly frequency has become less timely in capturing periodic shifts in costs and margins.
To further enhance market transparency and help industry participants promptly track changes in Indonesia's high-grade matte costs and margins, SMM officially launched weekly Indonesia high-grade nickel matte cost data points on August 31, 2026, covering both full cost and cash cost bases, in addition to the existing monthly data.
