Methodology and Data Notes
The series covers India’s finished steel exports, including non-alloy and alloy/stainless steel within the Ministry of Steel/JPC product classifications. Each observation represents exports for one calendar month.
HRC/strip: Monthly exports of hot-rolled coils and strip.
Pipes & tubes: Monthly exports of steel pipes and tubes under the Ministry of Steel/JPC classification.
Galvanised sheets (GP/GC): Monthly exports of galvanised plain and galvanised corrugated sheets and coils, excluding colour-coated sheets.
Bars & rods: Monthly exports of bars and rods.
Others: Calculated by SMM as total finished steel exports minus HRC/strip, pipes and tubes, galvanised sheets (GP/GC), and bars and rods. This residual category includes plates, cold-rolled coils and sheets, electrical sheets, tinplate, structurals, and alloy/stainless products outside those four product groups.
Total: India’s monthly total finished steel exports, excluding semi-finished billets and slabs.

Applications and Market Significance
The series will provide steel producers, traders and other market participants with a reference for monitoring India’s monthly export performance and changes in its export product mix. The historical data will support comparisons across product groups and analysis of trends in India’s finished steel exports.
From November 16, users will be able to access the series under Ferrous Metals > Steel Products> Imports & Exports > India.
