Dear Valued Customers,
Stainless steel data on the SMM English website was previously listed under the Nickel category, an arrangement that reflected the close link between the two markets through the nickel-bearing raw material chain. As SMM's stainless steel data coverage has continued to expand, now spanning global price assessments, mill-published alloy surcharges, export and trade flow data, and cost models, keeping these series under the Nickel category has made them harder for users to locate.
To improve accessibility, SMM has separated stainless steel data from the Nickel category and established a standalone stainless steel data category on the SMM English website, effective 1st September, 2026.
What has changed
- Stainless steel price data is now listed as an independent category, alongside Nickel
- All stainless steel price data series previously listed under Nickel have been migrated to the new category
- Nickel data, including nickel raw material series, remains under the Nickel category
Where to find it
Visit https://www.metal.com/stainless-steel, or navigate to Markets → Base Metals → Stainless Steel in the price and data section of the SMM English website.
This change affects only where the data is listed. There is no change to the coverage, methodology, publication frequency, or publication timing of any SMM stainless steel data point, and existing data access and subscriptions are unaffected.
