To further improve the steel demand-side data system and more comprehensively and accurately reflect the production operation and steel consumption intensity of downstream end-use industries in the steel industry, SMM will add new data on "Steel Downstream Operating Rate" and "Steel Downstream Steel Consumption" effective September 7, 2026. Both data sets will be updated regularly at 17:00 Beijing time on the fifth working day of each month, helping industry clients to timely grasp downstream operation dynamics and steel consumption trends, and providing a reference for assessing actual steel demand strength. The specific details of the newly added data are as follows:
1. Steel Downstream Operating Rate:
(1) Construction industry downstream operating rate;
(2) Infrastructure industry downstream operating rate;
(3) Machinery industry downstream operating rate;
(4) Automotive industry downstream operating rate;
(5) Home appliance industry downstream operating rate;
(6) Shipbuilding industry downstream operating rate;
(7) Comprehensive downstream operating rate.
2. Steel Downstream Steel Consumption:
(1) Construction industry downstream steel consumption;
(2) Infrastructure industry downstream steel consumption;
(3) Energy industry downstream steel consumption;
(4) Machinery industry downstream steel consumption;
(5) Automotive industry downstream steel consumption;
(6) Home appliance industry downstream steel consumption;
(7) Shipbuilding industry downstream steel consumption;
(8) Container industry downstream steel consumption;
(9) Total steel downstream steel consumption.
3. Update Rules:
(1) Steel Downstream Operating Rate: Updated on the fifth working day of each month with the actual operating rate data for the previous month.
(2) Steel Downstream Steel Consumption: Updated on the fifth working day of each month with the actual steel consumption data for the month before the previous month and the forecasted steel consumption for the previous month.
