Since 2026, the market landscape of China's copper smelting acid has been continuously evolving. Affected by adjustments to sulphuric acid export management policies, China's total sulphuric acid exports in June dropped significantly, with export volume plummeting to 980.12 mt, down over 99% MoM. The export transaction volumes of Chinese smelters fell sharply. Against this backdrop, trading activity in the FOB-based sulphuric acid export market has declined steeply, with firm bid and offer samples continuing to shrink. The price fairness of SMM Chinese Sulphuric Acid FOB Index from Copper Smelters and provincial copper smelting acid FOB indices no longer has a sufficient market foundation.
To reduce the transaction reference risk and information cost for upstream and downstream clients, after a period of market survey and extensive solicitation of industry views, SMM decided to align with market development needs, optimize the copper smelting acid pricing system, and temporarily suspend the above-mentioned FOB price points. Subsequent adjustments will be made in accordance with policy changes.
The specific adjustments are as follows:
- Discontinued: "SMM Chinese Sulphuric Acid FOB Index from Copper Smelters " and the smelting acid FOB indices for Shandong, Guangxi, Anhui, and Fujian will be discontinued on August 7, 2026 (Friday, a working day).
- Retained and optimized:The EXW price points of China's copper smelting acid (mainstream nationwide) will continue to be retained and optimized. Please stay tuned for subsequent adjustment notices regarding these price points.
The above price points to be discontinued will be removed from the website quotation window, but historical prices and these price points will remain in the database. If clients have requirements for historical data, they may contact the SMM Copper Research Team.
