Mar. 2 -- Indonesia’s PT Timah confimed that intends to build a second tin chemicals plant in Bangka, the cost of the first stage of which will be Rp 100 billion (US$11 million). The company is currently completing work on a first plant, which produces PVC stabilisers, at Ciligon, West Java. It was not specified which tin chemical products would be produced at the proposed Bangka unit, which has been under consideration for several years.
Bisnis Indonesia quoted Wachid Usman, President Director of Timah saying that the construction of second plant is scheduled for this year or by early 2012. Wachid said "The capacity of tin chemical plant in Bangka Belitung will be far bigger than Cilegon's plant," and added that Timah is trying to boost its downstream business in the country.
First phase construction of the Cilegon plant, which has a reported ultimate capacity of 10,000 tpy of tin stabilisers, was completed last August, with remaining work due to be completed this year. Bisnis Indonesia reported that product from the first unit is currently exported mainly to Japan and South Korea.
